How do I launch a web site?

There are a few things you need before you start.  Choose and register a domain name, find a company to “host” your web site, and a method to design, upload and maintain your html files.

How much does all this cost?

Registering your domain name is a flat fee paid yearly.  Similar to “registering” your license plates with the Department of Motor Vehicles, you will be required to renew periodically, based upon the agreement you finalize. Unless this service is provided by your choice of web hosts, we recommend visiting http://www.register.com to check the availability of your domain name. If it is available, you can complete the simple registration process online.

Web hosting, on the other hand, varies tremendously.  The most significant factor that drives the monthly host fee will be the size of the space you rent.  With today’s technology, graphics and sound files do not demand as much storage space as they have in the past. Many clients interested in basic informational type web sites are completely satisfied with less than 100 megabytes of storage space and pay a monthly fees of approximately $5.95– $12.00.  This fee includes a myriad of features depending on the chosen provider.  However, certain design styles and marketing strategies vary and need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

What are the design costs?

This is completely dependent upon your site content.  Generally, simple sites without logo design, customized artwork and business strategies bill at a flat rate based on the number of pages and possibly an hourly rate if there are specific animation and sound requirements.

Below is a pricing chart that covers all the associated costs of developing a web site from start to finish. Although your web design project may differ depending on your specific needs, you can use the pricing chart below to get a general idea of what it might cost to develop your web site.

Example: Total price for developing a 15-page Web site

There is an initial, non-refundable deposit of $175.00 which covers the first appointment to discuss your needs, how you plan to market your product, your target audience and decide on the technologies best suited for your project.  In addition, this deposit covers the preliminary design sketch, web host set up and domain registry information.

How do I modify my web site?

With all the user-friendly design products available today, some clients chose to maintain their own web site. This is a great cost saver and can become an interesting hobby.  The requirements can be discussed during the first appointment and upon request, you will receive a list of the most popular commercial software products available on the market. For the first 30 days after the launch of your site, free technical support is provided.

 If the amendments to your site are complex, changes are billable by a set hourly rate negotiated at the time of the contract drafting. Hourly rates begin at $65.00 per hour.

Other options include the development of an Administration Page which allows users to make updates and changes to their dynamic site on the fly.
